Stance: Boxing

The stances in Boxing are the basics for almost all kind of fights, this is because if focuses on protecting the face and body. Protecting the face is important in a street fight because is the number 1 target most of the times.

As you can see, the guard is high, protecting the face and chest. The body is leaning forward so it can deliver punches with more reach and power. From this position is really difficult to throw a kick.

This is a really effective stance in a normal street fight because almost nobody uses kicks in streets, but also very little people use the boxing stance the right way, if you are good enough, you can land many punches on the opponent.

The heel from the rear foot is raised a little, this is so when you throw a hit, you can have more reach and deliver the energy with a good foot placement, so your hit is backed up with the rigid floor and it can push all the weight of his body in the hit. (remember: Force = mass * acceleration)

One disadvantage is showed in a fight with less rules or no rules about lower hits, specially low kicks. Many people don't know this, but as we mentioned earlier, the proper foot placement, allows the fighter to deliver powerful punches. So when lower kicks are delivered, is difficult avoid them because of the high guard and the pain in the legs slows the fighter, weakens the punches and make footwork harder.

To fight this disadvantage, the fighter can make proper sight of the opponent to read his full body. Also can modify the footwork so is difficult a low kick is landed on the legs. In case this still doesn't work because some kicks still land hard, the fighter can train himself to resist some of these kicks by exposing his muscles to these kicks in a regular basis so they can get used to the punishment they may suffer.
